Welcome, to the Hotel California

Postby lobo on Mon Oct 23, 2006 6:36 pm

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

It is not when we are "on top of the world" usually that we are attacked. It is not usually large groups that are attacked. Predators attacking large groups try to seperate one from the herd. One, alone, is quite vulnerable. Our spiritual enemies can't push us back if we stand together. It is those times when we are scattered that we come under attack. In the movie "Pale Rider", Clint Eastwood said that a man alone is easy prey. Those who fall into substance abuse are especially vulnerable.

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year) you can find it here

After falling into sin, things can look really great. Even the wicked may prosper for a season...

And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
Relax said the nightman We are programmed to receive
You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave

Then, something happens. Our world gets turned inside out. Nothing we do of our own power will work - we can't save ourselves. So we run... Looking for a way back... A way out...

We find relief... There is someone who can save us, but then someone tells us that we'll never change. Our circumstances will never change... This is the way we've always been, and it's the way we'll always be. You can become a "Christian", but you'll never change.

If we convince ourselves of that, we've lost. We may as well give up, because things never will change.

We are sons and daughters of the King. We are a new creation. We'll still stumble, but we have to let God help us back up. Don't just lay down and give up.

To change a quote around a little bit:

On the plains of life lie the blackened bones of countless millions who stumbled in the darkness, fell down, and by not getting back up, died.

It's a dark world. We have to have a light so we can see to move around. We have that light at our disposal... Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path........................
