Verse(s) of the Day - 4/21/08

So, I was looking through Proverbs for a verse to use today, and that's when I stumbled upon this gem:

Proverbs 17:8 wrote:A bribe is like a lucky charm;
whoever gives one will prosper!

It struck me that we should remember that even God had a sense of humor. Need proof? Just look at the platypus! (See: Dogma)

Here are some more good ones:

Proverbs 17:25 wrote:Foolish children bring grief to their father
and bitterness to the one who gave them birth.

Proverbs 17:28 wrote:Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent;
with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

Proverbs 19:13 wrote:A foolish child is a calamity to a father;
a quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping.

Proverbs 21:9 wrote:It’s better to live alone in the corner of an attic
than with a quarrelsome wife in a lovely home.

I'm noticing a trend...

Proverbs 21:19 wrote:It’s better to live alone in the desert
than with a quarrelsome, complaining wife.

Proverbs 23:13-14 wrote:Don’t fail to discipline your children.
They won’t die if you spank them.
Physical discipline
may well save them from death.

Proverbs 25:16 wrote:Do you like honey?
Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick!

Contradiction anyone?

Proverbs 26:4-5 wrote:Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools,
or you will become as foolish as they are.

Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools,
or they will become wise in their own estimation.

But wait! There's one more!

Proverbs 27:15-16 wrote:A quarrelsome wife is as annoying
as constant dripping on a rainy day.
Stopping her complaints is like trying to stop the wind
or trying to hold something with greased hands.

Okay, so aside from the fact that I think the kings in the ancient days may have been a little disgruntled with their wives...pretty funny stuff!
"...An Apology. If you met me between 1987 and 2005 and I told you, "I'll pray for you," that was a lie. Never happened. I probably didn't pray for you. And that's not cool." - Prodigal Jon from
